Time flies when you’re having fun! It feels like just yesterday I was writing to you about the beginning of summer and the first exciting days of our merger. Although we’re halfway through August, summer is not over yet. No matter how busy our schedules become, there is so much value in allowing yourself time to relax and to do something different.
My teammates will likely joke that I am the last person who should talk about the importance of rest and free time. That is because I truly love to work. I love the credit union industry, the work that we do every day, our MVCU team and the community that we serve—including all of MVCU’s incredible members! We are passionate about achieving the goals we have set for our credit union and about serving your needs. Yet our executive team consistently reminds me and all our teammates about the importance of taking a break, no matter the challenge that sometimes presents to accomplishing our team goals.
Taking time off allows us to spend time with our families. It helps us connect with our friends. And importantly, it offers us the opportunity to experience new things, or perhaps our favorite things, like travel or outdoor activities. It is incredibly important to give yourself a break knowing that you will return to work refreshed and ready to achieve your goals. For me, that’s making MVCU the greatest place anyone has ever worked and the greatest place anyone has ever banked.
Forming a culture that is supportive of our teammates’ lives is one of the reasons that we were named one of the Boston Business Journal’s Best Places to Work earlier this year. In that spirit, we will be showing our appreciation to our team by closing all of our branches for an all-company celebration on Saturday, Aug. 19. We have planned an amazing party for our team members to spend quality time together and celebrate all that we have accomplished as a credit union family this year. I know how much you will miss our amazing branch teams on that day, but we will be back and ready to serve you the following Monday, Aug. 21!
While we hang onto the rest of summer, I encourage you to value your time off. Take that beach day you’ve been considering. Plan that trip to the mountains you’ve been talking about. Or maybe you just need a day to do nothing. It is so important to make time for that which makes you feel happy and whole, so don’t forget to do so! Summer isn’t over yet!
Thank you for continuing to be a part of our credit union community!
Sincerely,
