As part of National Financial Literacy Month, Merrimack Valley Credit Union (MVCU) continued its longstanding partnership with Africano Waltham by hosting a “Leaders of Tomorrow” program at the credit union’s Waltham branch on Wednesday, April 17. During the event, MVCU’s Business Development team hosted several teenaged student members of Africano Waltham for a day of financial education, networking and professional guidance.
Founded in 2010, Africano Waltham is a nonprofit organization that uses a holistic approach to support and uplift African immigrant youth and their families; helping them succeed in life through provision of a safe space, educational and mental health support, visual and performing arts, and cultural connections.
Several high school students visited MVCU’s Waltham branch and learned about managing money, planning for future earnings and how to consider future debt. The students also toured the branch and met with members of MVCU’s Human Resources department to discuss job opportunities at the credit union before enjoying lunch with MVCU’s Business Development team.
“We had a wonderful time during the ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ program,” says Sarita Ledani, MVCU’s vice president of Select Employer Groups (SEG) Member Growth and Development. “The students were lively and interactive, and our Business Development team loved getting to know them and their unique stories. We are so proud to support our community partners and help local students live their best financial lives.”
